  • Horn Coral is a fossil from the extinct order of corals call Rugosa.  
  • They grow in a long cone shape like a bull’s horn.  The fossil is the skeleton of the coral animal or polyp and lived at the top of the cone.  
  • The oldest of the Rugosa corals are found in rocks from the Ordovician Period.  However, as a group they flourished until they became extinct in the Great Permian Extinction.  
  • The cabochon is approximately 1 1/2 inch  by 1 1/4 inch.  Crown depth is 1/2 inch. 
  • Cabochon is hand-cut and polished.  Back of stone is not polished.
