Horn Coral is a fossil from the extinct order of corals call Rugosa.

They grow in a long cone shape like a bull’s horn. The fossil is the skeleton of the coral animal or polyp and lived at the top of the cone.

The oldest of the Rugosa corals are found in rocks from the Ordovician Period. However, as a group they flourished until they became extinct in the Great Permian Extinction.

The cabochon is approximately 1 1/2 inch by 1 1/4 inch. Crown depth is 1/2 inch.

Cabochon is hand-cut and polished. Back of stone is not polished.
