  • Jasper is an aggregate of microgranular quartz and/or cryptocrystalline chalcedony.
  • It is an opaque, impure variety of silica, usually red, yellow, brown or green in color. The red color is due to iron inclusions. The difference between jasper and agate is in its luminosity; jasper being opaque and agate having translucent properties.  Both are chalcedony.
  • Patterns arise during the consolidation process forming flow and depositional patters in the original silica-rich sediment or volcanic ash.  
  • The stone is 1 1/2 inch x 7/8 inch.  The crown depth is 3/8 inch.
  • Cabochon is hand-cut and polished.  Back of stone is not polished.
